A Very Magical 6th Birthday
Our oldest daughter, Genevieve, turned 6 on November 7th, and she begged for a unicorn birthday! We normally don’t go over the top or do a lot for their birthdays, but this year she finally “cared”..if that makes sense? When Genevieve was diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum 3 years ago, we didn’t know what the future held. She didn’t have interest in most things, she didn’t want new toys, let alone a party.
So this year when she was overly excited about it, I was ecstatic. She is in Kindergarten and had plenty of friends to invite so I decided to go all out. I am definitely not a “Pinterest mom” but I do LOVE Pinterest, and I am a tad crafty.. which helped!
I let her look on Pinterest and find ideas for the party and that was where I began.
I found her unicorn dress online, and she uses it for dress up now which is fun! I snagged a cute little tiara headband from the Children’s Place along with her ballet flats to make the outfit complete!
When I let Genevieve pick out the dessert list, I knew most of the items could be done at home. There were a few things I outsourced, where I knew my skills weren’t 100% but overall, it was a head table fit for a unicorn princess!
In case you are wondering what was on the dessert table..
Magical unicorn cake
Cupcakes with handmade wrapper
Chocolate dipped oreos
Chocolate covered pretzel rods
Cake pops
Rock candy
Rainbow marshmallows
Party favor bags
The cupcake liners were made from scrapbook card stock, cut with a scrapbooking tool. The party favor bags were cut from a design I purchased to use on my Silhouette Cameo 3. I used an edible gold spray on the end of the rock candy to give it a little shimmer. And believe it or not, we designed the balloon arch and assembled it ourselves! I was so nervous, but after a few youtube videos we were basically pros! Most of the balloons were purchased at Party City and a few bags at Walmart, and slowly but surely it came together the night before the party! The unicorn face/horn/ears/flowers were purchased from a local woman who makes them.. I’m sure I could have done it myself but I chose to outsource a few things, remember?
OH! Did I mention that we had a real live unicorn do rides for all the kids!? His name was Bob, and he was so beautiful!! Genevieve planned every part of her party, except for a unicorn so this was our little surprise/gift to her! Every kid had a ride, they took beautiful pictures and it was definitely worth it!
If you have any questions about the set up I did, or are local to El Paso and interested in the few connections we had- just let me know!
Start children off on the way they should go,
and even when they are old they will not turn from it.
